Prayer Rug

4

While clearly of the same “family” and approximate age as plate 3, this rug delivers an entirely different interpretation of the same design motif.  Although more crowded, it is also well-thought-out; while the “tree” motifs are off-balance to the right, their weight is offset by the light vine structures on the left and the heavier hooked forms on the right.  And a tiny white octagon – the only white in the entire field except for three dots and the minor border’s trim --  finishes it off by being placed precisely at the center of the field.
