Prayer Rug

5

This little rug is a striking example of good proportion and tasteful design.  An unusual feature is the horizontal band across the top that connects the two hand panels, a deviation from the usual “Baluch” prayer rug configuration that is rendered especially attractive here by a contrasting mid-blue hue appearing nowhere else in the rug.  Along with its dignity, this piece exudes a sense of humor: don’t miss the eyebrows over the eyes in the mihrab.
