Prayer Rug

18

There are many of these blue-field prayer rugs with similar appearance, but what makes this one especially appealing is the way the radiant orange-brown of its minor borders frames and defines the design.  Noteworthy are the slightly offset asymmetry of the field, the stately main border motif, the “willow” hand panels, and the unusual chevron peak at the top of the mihrab or prayer arch.  Prayer rugs of this type are commonly attributed to weavers of the Timuri tribal group
