Small Prayer Rug

24

Why would a rug in the prayer format be this tiny if it were not intended for use by a child?  Unusual here is the single, narrow white-and-brown reciprocal border that defines the mihrab or prayer arch; normally “Baluch” weavers use from three to as many as ten borders to do the job.  The deep blue field, difficult to reproduce in a photograph, is rich and glowing.
