Rug

28

This old rug offers an interesting example of how a weaver can use a single simple form, nine soft colors of wool, and a refined artistic sense to create an inviting, even exciting, random design of polychrome squares.  The slightly offset field, caused by the extra-wide left-hand minor border, is a frequent characteristic of “Baluch” weavings.  Was this woven by two weavers with different concepts of what a minor border should be?
