Turkmen Trapping

1' 5" X 1' 1"

No other pieces with this shape are known, and its function is a mystery. The warps and wefts are uninterrupted through the unpiled area in the center, and reinforcing wefts have been added. The open-to-the-left knots and the depressed warps suggest a Salor origin; the knot density is within the lower range for Salors. The piece lacks the elegance, though, generally associated with that attribution. Any thoughts concerning this piece’s function and origin are welcome!
