Beshir Chuval

4' 11" X 3' 2"

This chuval has richly saturated colors, a very floppy handle, and an unusual design. Notice how the weaver continued to experiment with the design of the “guls” that she placed within the diagonal lattice, making their central diamonds larger or smaller, increasing and then decreasing the number of “diamonds within the diamonds,” even adding white “arrows” to the guls in the second row from the top, before arriving at what most viewers would agree is the best of her attempts in the very last horizontal row that she wove. The ability to see the weaver-as-designer at work adds greatly to the appeal of this chuval.
