Chuval Fragment

3' 0" X 2' 8"

10

Even in its current fragmentary form, the scale of the chuval, the size of the primary guls contrasted with the rather delicate secondary guls, and the rich colors—including two different insect derived dyes—all combine to clearly convey what the visual impact of this piece must once have been. The main border is almost entirely offset knotted, which allowed the weaver to create consistently crisp diagonals despite the border’s rather modest size.
