An ambiguity of background versus foreground
is what distinguishes all three combinations of motives in this
marvelous small single bag. Other bags with similar designs, such as
a saltbag in Wertime, Sumak, plate 133, and a chuval face
that once appeared in the New York old rug market, use only the field design
and the yellow guard borders. The unusual outside blue and black
border elevates this weaving above the others from an esthetic
standpoint.
