Daghestan Pile Rug
19th century

The boldness of the lattice is intriguing as is the shape of the mihrab.  The dragon border ranges from carefully drawn to crude. The rug features very saturated colors and lustrous wool. We find the irregular wefting interesting.  It seems to be an attempt to keep the rug square.

For a similar example, though much earlier and finer, see Kaffel's plate 60.1
